THK linear guide systems are unique motion control systems in which linear motion is supported by rolling contact elements. These linear motion guides (also known as “LM guides”) can best be described as a system which uses the rotational motion principle of a deeply grooved ball bearing. This principle makes it the easiest to use and most economical of all rotational motion bearings.
Since the balls employed as rotating elements are set in raceways having an almost equal radius to the balls that rotate in them, the contact between the balls and the circular arc raceway is changed from conventional point contact to a line contact. This line contact system means that the THK linear guide can handle 13 times the workload and last 2,200 times longer than conventional linear guideways (round shafts or rails) of the same ball diameter.
